UK elections

Post by Skinny Bones Jones on Thu Sep 11, 2008 9:49 pm

Figured in light of this quote from Twat-ers:

twat-ers wrote:Also, i see we have this thread, but is no-one interested in UK politics?

We should at least get people talking on this, regardless of how many years it'll be.

Brown.

Cameron is smarmy and i don't trust him one bit. Whereas Brown was a good chancellor (Blair dropped him in a lot of stuff), and would be a good PM if he didn't surround himself with people like Darling...

Didn't Brown sign a secret declaration with the EU for Britain to lose even more control I would hardly say that is trusting.

Brown has shown his incompetence in my opinion.
Also, even though Cameron would have done exactly the same thing, I don't like that there wasn't a new election when Brown took over.

I know that isn't how it's supposed to work, but it's how it has turned out.

Brown's been very unfortunate, and lots of unforseeable events have occurred. Also, personally, i think he's surrounded by idiots. Our economy is crippled by a war we couldn't afford, and an international downturn. Cameron wouldn't have done better (probably a lot worse), and in my opinion, he's a posh, showboating, attention-seeker. That and he's a Tory. Can't stand Tories.

I know he's been unfortunate but I also think he hasn't handled the bad hand he's been dealt well. Don't you think the people who he appoints to his cabinet are his fault too?

Cameron would lack experience, but he's the best alternative to Brown.

I don't necessarily mean cabinet, i mean advisers, other party members etc. In the cabinet it's mainly Darling i have a problem with. And i don't see Cameron as a viable alternative at all. He's just a young face put on an old party.

Millband and Balls are two I'd also see go. Not to mention the totally useless Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

To be honest I'd prefer a change this election, I think Labour have spent enough time pandering to the US and pushing useless policy around that they're becoming too comfortable in power.

I'm not that big a fan of Cameron either, and the Lib Dems never show enough guts to actually get anywhere in this country. Where are our politicians with balls? Where are our Ron Pauls, our Dennis Kucinich's?
However much I disagree with the US electoral system, at least some of their candidates show a little passion for a cause.

I agree with SBJ.

The thing is, I'm just sick of always having to go with the lesser of two evils.

Why can't we have someone that's not an incompetent twat in one way or another?

Thing is Britain has been going down, they are no longer the leaders. Everyone used to have to suck up to Britain and now its the other way around.

Lets face no politician has all the answers. We will always remember the bad over the decent as well. That is why we view it as the lesser of two evils\

Disclaimer: I have no idea about English politics except Brown came in after Tony Blair. I am just looking at the sentiments in this thread and comparing them to my Australian knowledge of politics.

Incidentally the Aussie local elections are this weekend. I miss voting by 2 weeks

Don't know anything about RL-UK politics, but if you guys elect ppl like that guy that's currently mayor of London (that boris guy), the rest of the world sure can't deny that the British voter doesn't have a sense of humour Laughing Laughing
